Please Help Us
Preserve the History
of Northwest Ohio

This is an important and exciting time for Woodlawn and the Historic Woodlawn Foundation. We have completed our physical master plan that will provide a vision for a ten-year restoration plan and future development. The Cemetery has many capital needs. The Foundation fund is that primary source of such capital funding.

The Board of Trustees will be, during the balance of 2011, is prioritizing the restoration projects. Our bridge has been closed due to safety concerns. This is an important project. We hope to have funds for the care and preservation of many of our most important trees and to establish an ongoing pruning and feeding program for these historic trees.

Over time we have lost trees and we want to have a proactive replacement program within an overall plan for the arboretum. In addition to our trees, we hope to have funds to establish spring bulb plantings on the hillside on Central Avenue towards the expressway.

The Woodlawn Cemetery Historic Association was created to preserve the Cemetery's rich history and the historical structures on the property. It is a nonprofit corporation, established exclusively for charitable purposes so contributions are tax deductible.

Your generous contribution to this important preservation effort would be greatly appreciated. For more information, e-mail Historic Woodlawn Cemetery or call us at 419-472-2186.

Historic Woodlawn Cemetery is a nationally recognized historic cemetery that has been a vital living part of Northwest Ohio's heritage since its founding in 1876. With its shady glens, reflecting lake and spectacular trees, Woodlawn is considered a prime example of landscape architecture and design. The cemetery is a museum that features statuary art, monumental architecture and historical tributes to Northwest Ohio families, as well as the final resting place of Civil and Revolutionary War soldiers and many ordinary citizens who contributed to the building of Northwest Ohio.

Woodlawn has gained national recognition as an arboretum. The cemetery's first superintendent, horticulturist Frank Eurich (1876-1900), created a mixture of rare and common, national and international flora. The three hundred or so species of trees at Woodlawn represent an excellent mix of varieties found in a typical Eastern deciduous woodland area.
