Cremation At Woodlawn

Today, many families are considering cremation as an alternative to conventional burial. It is an attractive option because cremation offers the dignity of a traditional service at a much more affordable cost.

Historic Woodlawn Cemetery is an experienced provider of cremation services. We were the first cemetery in Northwest Ohio to offer cremation. Woodlawn has provided on-site cremation services since 1923 — more than 80 years

Although many talk about cremation, Historic Woodlawn is one of only two Toledo cemeteries that has its own crematory — one of only three providers in the Toledo area that actually performs cremation on-site.

At Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, we take cremation very seriously. Each cremation is performed individually. Unlike some providers, there is no co-mingling of remains. Our facilities are thoroughly swept after each service — carefully prepared before the next. The family is always welcome to be present if they wish.

Your Funeral Director Adds Dignity to the Service

Even though you can make most of your plans for a cremation service with our advisors, your funeral director director is always an important part of the process. Your funeral director's participation is required by law. The director also provides many valuable services as you plan a fitting memorial for your loved one.

The Cremation Planning Process

Your first step is to pre-plan your service with Historic Woodlawn Cemetery and your funeral director. At the time of death, your funeral director will move your loved one to our crematorium. After the cremation, the ashes will be carefully placed in the container you have selected. Then, your director will supervise the memorial service that you have planned.

Choice of Urns

Historic Woodlawn Cemetery offers a wide selection of cremation urns and urn vaults. Our choice of urns includes styles in blown glass, ceramic, wood, brass, marbleon and cloisonné.

Disposition

When you pre-plan with Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, the options are extensive. You can plan a traditional in-ground interment with a loved one, a burial in our urn garden space, scattering over our Woodlawn Lake, aboveground inurnment in the Woodlawn Columbarium or inurnment in a niche within the beautiful Lakeside Mausoleum. Cremains can also be placed in a "Back to Nature" boulder. A very special area of Historic Woodlawn Cemetery is reserved for infants.
